Cambourne Town FC - a new club for Cambourne!

Cambourne Town FC - a new club for Cambourne!

Jane Thompson4 May 2021 - 14:00

Welcome! Cambourne teams join together to form a single football club for the local community.

Cambourne Town Council is delighted to announce that from the start of the new 2021-22 season, the current Cambourne Eagles, Cambourne FC, Cambourne Rovers (the Men’s team who are already playing as Cambourne Town) and Cambourne United teams will join together to form a single football club for the local community. The new club will be known as Cambourne Town Football Club.

It will result in the formation of the largest club in Cambourne and one of the largest in Cambridgeshire, covering junior and adult football for boys, girls, men and women. Cambridgeshire FA’s support extends to granting the new club 'Hub Club' status, something which provides extended support and investment to the club and the football community within Cambourne above what it currently receives.

The support of the Town Council in the initiative will mean the vision for the club will be easier to realise over time. Involvement of the adult age teams within the club structure will provide a natural pathway to adult football for children. The aim is to create a club which provides inclusive football to players of all ages and abilities in a safe, friendly and fun
environment; encouraging players to achieve their full potential and promote excellence including good behaviour and respect for others. This will be fulfilled through age-appropriate coaching to support long-term playing and personal development. As part
of the vision for the longer term we will also be involved in the progression of football in the local community, partnering to develop walking and disability football.

Chris Abbott at Cambridgeshire FA said:
“The Cambridgeshire Football Association has been delighted to have supported the clubs and Cambourne Town Council to form this fantastic new club that will provide the ultimate pathway for both male and female football as well as the opportunity as a Hub Club to
develop the club even further. We would like to place on record our thanks to everyone involved for their hard work and commitment to achieve this outcome and look forward to an exciting future.”
